At Momentum, it is all about people. In the series 'A Momentum With', we hand the mic to our colleagues themselves: about their role, what they are proud of, and what Momentum means to them. This time: Malte Helm, Support Coordinator, and, by now, the calm at the centre of a close-knit support team.
A team that feels like family
Malte Helm has been with Momentum for over three years and recently became Support Coordinator. The support team is the first point of contact for questions and issues, with colleagues all over the world. "What I love is that there is simply a really good team here, and we support each other enormously, in the work, but just as much on a personal level", says Malte.
How that feels became very concrete recently. "My manager asked whether I can now go on holiday with peace of mind. That has not always been the case. And now I can finally say yes." That trust is not limited to the support team; it is just as true for the colleagues beyond it: project team, engineering, sales, marketing. "It genuinely feels like family."
From a warm welcome to bringing the calm
Malte started with little experience in the field, but with plenty of energy and a wish to be around colleagues. "Before this I often worked from home, and at some point that just got boring. When I arrived here, I was welcomed with open arms." That sense of being in the right place, and of being valued, was there straight away. "If you had a good idea, something was actually done with it. And that is still the case."
These days, Malte is often the one bringing the calm. "I enjoy helping people when they get stuck: which colleague do you need, is there something I can do myself? Helping people grow is what gives me energy." And that appreciation comes back. "Colleagues sometimes say: because of you I feel the calm to focus on my own work. That is lovely to hear."
"When you show that things can be done differently, it is contagious. That is how a wave of improvement gets going, and that is exactly what momentum is."
Thinking in solutions, not in silos
What Malte finds typically Momentum is the way of working. "We are not stuck behind 'the SLA says four hours' or behind KPIs. We know how urgent something is, and then we do everything we can to solve it." And if it does not work out for once, people know: everything was genuinely tried.
When something big went wrong somewhere, the team dropped everything. One engineer recently drove for two days straight to bring several sites back online: eight hours there, doing the installations, and eight hours back again. Arranged last minute. "At another provider, that often would not happen. That is something we really do differently."
That freedom makes the difference. "I can take responsibility myself. If I think something is a good solution and we agree on it? Then we just do it straight away. At a more tightly organised company, that takes much longer."
That is Momentum to me
What Momentum means to Malte ultimately comes together in that one word. "You take responsibility yourself, you think in solutions, and you take each other along, you make each other better than before. That is how you create momentum together, a wave that everyone rides." And the people around you notice that most of all. "We simply want to make people genuinely happy. That is the motto we most like to carry out."
